In our passage, the wise father teaches his son the importance of wise words.
The words that go in your ears will eventually come out of your mouth. How do we know that enough wisdom has gone in your ears? Wisdom is coming out of your mouth.
The good news is that, as often as we get this wrong, our confidence is not in our own flawless mouth but in the eternal word who was made flesh to make faith more sure in our hearts.
